Signs signs everywhere

More signs have gone up across Connecticut informing beachgoers and any interested parties about the sensitive nesting habitat of our states threatened coastal waterbirds. Timothy Thompson snapped a shot of these newly placed signs on the beach at Harkness Memorial State Park that were erected by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

They are hard at work as always, along with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, to help protect these birds from a variety of threats as we enter nesting season. Piping Plovers have been seen in increasing numbers in the last few days, with territorial battles beginning to wind down and copulation being noted in some instances. Nests will not be far behind. We hope many of you will be able to give some more of your time and effort and join us on the beach to help set up exclosures and string fencing. Those dates will be coming out soon.
