AAfCW 2024 Field Update #2

This is the second field update for the AAfCW in 2024 with data provided from volunteer monitors spanning April 18 through April 24. All monitors should be in the field or scheduled to do so if they have not already visited their beach, having picked up their badge/lanyard, submitted a CT DEEP signed waiver form, and agreed on a schedule here with AAfCW.

Some reminders to please remember...

1. Many nests will begin to appear soon with improving and warming weather. New nests should be reported to Laura.Saucier@ct.gov, rsuzf@hotmail.com, and ctwaterbirds@gmail.com. 

2. To report issues to ctwaterbirds@gmail.com and CT DEEP directly via email if it involves downed fencing or signage, lost nests, moderate disruptions and disturbances, or contact local animal control, police, or EnCon police for “take” situations and emergencies, letting us know about the event ASAP as well.

3. To submit a separate report for each species when entering data. Please do not lump them all into one submission. We want to report on Piping Plovers, American Oystercatchers, Least Terns, and Common Terns. You do not need to enter a new report for each species if you saw none of a species. You can mention this in the comments of others, or enter one report for a trip where you saw no focal species at all.

4. That negative data is important! If you visit and do not see any species, please submit a single reporting stating this. It is as much of a help to us as seeing a lot of birds. Negative data is not included below, but it is received in our database and used for our staff in everything from real-time monitoring to year-end reporting for regulatory agencies.
