This is the sixth field update for the AAfCW in 2022 with data through June 7. Thank you to everyone who has helped in conducting the statewide Piping Plover census. There is still time to participate today and tomorrow, albeit only when safely possible when it is not raining. We always want to stay home during inclement weather. If you have visited a special census site in the past week, please submit data directly to Laura Saucier (Laura.Saucier@ct.gov). Please keep in mind that we are to do as the public does at all times. While we have a badge and are collecting data, educating beachgoers, and viewing our focal species, we want to keep out of fenced areas no matter the circumstances, never linger near nests, remain in the wet sand area, and be mindful of birds alarmed by our presence and/or attempting to move us. We are no different than any other scary predator in their eyes. The most critical component is your presence and providing education, and the many related observations you can provide of your beach at your given time. Thank you all for your help!
