This is the eleventh weekly update by the Audubon Alliance for Coastal Waterbirds (AAfCW) for the 2013 season. Today's update includes reports of Piping Plover, American Oystercatcher, Least Tern and Common Tern from June 3 through 4:00 p.m. on June 11 with sightings of birds by volunteers and staff spanning that period.
Informational updates:
Beach traffic is increasing with sunbathers, fishermen, swimmers, and many more types of people visiting the Connecticut shoreline. This is the best time of the year to educate the public about our birds while young Piping Plovers run through the sand and Least Terns set up on hundreds of nests. If we talk to these people about the birds and let them know that we can share the beach with these beautiful species they will hopefully grow to appreciate and respect them all the more.
