AAfCW 2017 Volunteer Update #11

This is the eleventh weekly update by the Audubon Alliance for Coastal Waterbirds (AAfCW) for the 2017 season. Today's update includes reports of Piping Plover, American Oystercatcher, Least Tern, and Common Tern through 10:00 a.m. on June 19 with sightings of birds by volunteers and staff since the previous update on June 12.

Informational updates:

Once again the main headline of the week is weather with today and tomorrow potentially producing poor monitoring conditions and cancelled surveys. Wednesday may yield a shower before a couple of hopefully dry days and then a weekend with the chance for more precipitation. Even as we pass through mid-June we have Piping Plover nests being exclosed, so please be on the lookout for additional nests and be aware DEEP and AAfCW staff are working as diligently as possible - when weather allows - to get these tasks completed. This also means we will hopefully be seeing hatchlings and fledglings in need of monitoring well into August, so your help will certainly be needed until September! As always, thank you all for your data, information, and education while on the beach.
