AAfCW String Fencing Removal

Good afternoon! Here are two fencing removal dates set by CT DEEP. The Audubon Alliance for Coastal Waterbirds would appreciate any volunteers who could help us out at:

-Bluff Point, Groton on August 22nd at 10am. Rain date of August 23rd at 10am.
-Long Beach, Stratford on August 24th at 10am. Rain date of August 26th at 10am.

Assisting not only helps AAfCW but it also greatly aids CT DEEP staff and their busy schedules. It also limits the stress on our birds. We will only be taking down the fencing as staff will remove equipment off the beach with the boat (at another time) so there will be lessened heavy lifting. Nevertheless, those who join us should remember a few things:

-wear sunscreen and a hat
-drink plenty of water or sports drink and bring a snack
-do not attempt to carry too many stakes as there will be enough volunteers and staff members so that no one should overexert themselves
-take a break when needed

In general we look for everyone we can to help out even if you are not a regular AAfCW monitor or volunteer - the more the merrier. It also makes for a more pleasant morning of bird watching and discussions on the beach. Other locations including Hammonasset, Harkness Memorial State Park, Pleasure Beach, Mumford Cove, Hatchetts, and more will be taken down by staff only.

Fencing and signage at Sandy/Morse Points and Milford Point will be staying up into September to provide a high tide refuge area for migratory shorebird flock. The Nature Conservancy will schedule their fence removal for Griswold Point, and we will let you know those details soon. Please email us at ctwaterbirds@gmail.com if you can join us, and thank you!
