Piping Plover Bathing

Earlier this afternoon Stratford Point Land Steward Stefan Martin and I, AAfCW Volunteer Coordinator Scott Kruitbosch, enjoyed this bathing Piping Plover at one of our monitored beaches. It had just wrapped up taking a little swim while dunking its head frequently, letting waves hit it but dodging larger ones along the shore. This was the end of the bath before more preening and cleaning.



Our friend and former colleague Sean Graesser once recorded a swimming hatchling Piping Plover along with an adult, but this was a first in person for either of us. I'll post some of my swim photos tomorrow...
